What happens to GIF animations?

Only the first frame of an animated GIF is included in the PDF. PDF does not support animation, so the static first frame is used.

Will image quality be reduced?

No. Images are embedded into the PDF without re-encoding (for JPG and PNG) or with minimal canvas re-encoding (for WebP, GIF, BMP). The visible quality is identical to the source images.
